Oranje

I so very much want to knit this, Oranje by Weaverknits. Absolutely love the colors . . . cannot afford the yarn though, yikes! The sleeve length is wonderful, even love the turtle-neck. I cannot find a thing that I don't like about this sweater . . . must fine acceptable substitution for the yarn.

Might just buy some KnitPicks Bare Sock Yarn and dye up my own for the orange!

Sunday Inspirations

This Owl that Mary on Lake Pulaski made is adorable. She got the pattern over on design.wash.rinse.repeat..

Love this Journal Quilt Experiment from Focus on Fiber. I’m not sure if I’d have the patience to do this or not, but love the way it turned out.

The idea in general of a Felted Planter Hanger sounds so nifty. Custom size, custom made, custom length . . . so many more ideas for a balcony gardener!

I love handmade baby items recently and this Sunshine Rattle is just nifty!

Recipes I’d like to try:

Mexican Lasagna sounds goo and would be easy to make a gluten free version!

Chicken Pot Pie Crumble sounds like a wonderful idea. Of course I would use a
gluten free flour, probably King Arthurs’ as I am loving it recently.

Creamy Chicken Spaghetti Casserole sounds super delicious . . . are we sensing a theme here?

Food Friday - Baked Stuffed Peppers

I tried this recipe for Baked Stuff Jalapenos. I used mild long peppers and jalapenos, because the husband is not a fan of hot and spicy things.

I used the bacon version, but did not add the oregano as the mix tasted good without it.

I cut the peppers in half and filled them with the filling.
Photobucket

A little extra cheese on top is always good!
Photobucket

After they baked.
Photobucket

Pleasantly surprised by these. They are very good and very filling. The husband is not a huge fan of stuffed peppers and he really like these. Will definitely make these again. Super yummy!

Healthy Thursday

Well, the scale is still going down, albeit slowly. I can see other differences though, like my pants aren't as snug around the waistband and I can see some definition in my arms.

Weight = 275.2 (Down 2.2lbs since 2 weeks ago)

Friday:
Exercise= None.

Sweets= 1 Pudding cup.

Sleep/Mood = 7.5 hours, slept mostly well, with a few bad dreams. Remembered to take my sinus medicine in the morning and afternoon, so I felt much better.

Saturday:
Exercise= None.

Sweets= 1 Pudding cup

Sleep/Mood= About 10.5 hours! I know, crazy, but I guess my body needed it. Slept well the whole time and feel good this morning, except for a little stuffed up. The stuffed up only ended up getting worse throughout the day into sick, I didn’t have a fever, but my temperature dropped down to 96.

Sunday:
Exercise = 25 minutes of Jillian Michaels’ Cardio Kickbox, did everything but the push-ups at the end.

Sweets = 1 pudding cup

Sleep = About 11 hours. Well it took me hours to fall asleep, I was freezing cold and my body refused to just sleep. After I finally fell asleep it was restless sleep for a lot of the time. In the morning I felt a little better, except for a bad headache. Medicine only helped a little, headache continued throughout the day.

Monday:
Exercise = 15 minutes of Jillian Michaels’ Shape Up-Backside. I did it this first time without weights, getting more of a feel for the video. Honestly, I only did 15 minutes instead of the 25 because there is a lot of on the ground exercises, to up and jumping around and then back down to the floor. It was killing my headache, so maybe next time I’ll be able to hang in longer.

Sweets = 1 pudding cup

Sleep = 9.5 hours of sleep. Let my body sleep as long as it wanted to, after all, I don’t want to be sick at work. Felt much better when I woke up, still having the sinus/cold headache issue though and medicine is only helping so/so.

Tuesday:
Exercise = Arms exercises with weights 3 sets of 10 reps with 8lb weights. 15 minutes step aerobics.

Sweets = 1 Pudding cup.

Sleep = 7 hours, better sleep than normal when transitioning into the work week.

Wednesday:
Exercise = None, was not feeling well, female issues.

Sweets = ½ pint of ice cream

Sleep = 7 hours, had some difficulty falling asleep. Cramps suck.

Thursday:
Exercise = Will be doing 25 minutes of Jillian Michaels’ Cardio Kickbox once I am done posting this.

Sweets = The other ½ of the pint of ice cream.

Sleep = 7 hours, crappy crampy sleeping again.

Sunday Inspirations

This Bear Hooded Towel is adorable! This could definitely be a future gift for my nieces and nephew.

Recipes I’d like to try:

Italian Sausage and Cabbage Stew. The whole sulfur tasting foods have been high on my craving list lately . . . cauliflower and cabbage especially. Plus, Wegmans has their own spicy sausage which is a favorite of mine lately, so this recipe falls into the category of very likely to be made this week.

Gluten Free Shepard’s Pie sounds delicious . . . mostly because it is not hamburger, it’s chicken! A little more like a chicken pot pie. This is definitely going to happen, in fact, I may this Monday, since it’s a three day weekend.

January's Bakers Dozen Square

Yes, evidently I forgot to blog about this too!

Yarn: Stitch Nation’s Bamboo Ewe
Color: Beach Glass
Content: 55% Viscose from Bamboo and 45% Wool
Care: Hand wash in cold water, lay flat to dry
Needles: US 4 / 3.5mm
Hook: G / 4mm
Stitch: Cross-Stitch Block from More Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch

I loved this pattern since I saw it in the book. The texture is wonderful and I love how stretchy it is. I still want to complete a pair of socks in this pattern.

I truly loved how well this yarn worked. It is so quickly becoming a favorite to work with. The drape was wonderful. I had reservations about the color, the Member of the Month wanted pastels - - colors I am usually not a fan of. But this color worked so well with this pattern. It really does have that faded blue/teal beach glass color.

Food Friday - Gluten Free Banana Bread

I used the same brand that I like with the Gluten Free Carrot Cake and tried their Gluten Free Banana Bread.
I threw in some Ghirardelli chocolate chips.
Photobucket

I used tiny 5.75" x 3" pans.
Photobucket

Aren't they cute!
Photobucket

Yummy melted chocolate chips!
Photobucket

This turned out really well. I had a slice or two. I like that it wasn't overpoweringly banana. The husband really like them. Would definitely recommend it.

Healthy Thursday - On Friday morning

This week was a little off, it's been getting nicer here, it was 50 yesterday and my sinus headaches are not doing well. There is no weigh in, because I forgot yesterday and I would like to keep it consistent about when I weigh myself.

Friday:
Exercise= None.

Sweets= None.

Sleep/Mood = 7.5 hours. Disappointed in myself for Friday, I took the stairs at work and ate well while at work, but I came home and ate too much spaghetti, made myself feel sick and went to bed. This disappoints me because I have been very conscious of my serving size that I eat and monitoring my portion control because this is a problem I have.

Saturday:
Exercise= 15 minutes of step aerobics. Arm exercises of 3 sets of 10 reps with 8lb weights.

Sweets= A glass of Pepsi.

Sleep/Mood= Slept about 10 hours last night. Sleep was okay, but woke up not feeling good and a little cranky. I am presuming this is due to the spaghetti overload. Today was good otherwise though, I was back to good portions and stopping once I felt the littlest bit full.

Sunday:
Exercise = None, unless you count going up and down the stairs to do 8 loads of laundry!

Sweets = Gave in and got a small pack of Peeps, they are my weakness.

Sleep = Oddly, even though I didn’t have to get up early, cause it’s a Sunday, I only slept 7 hours and woke up on my own.

Monday:
Exercise = What can I say, it was Valentine’s Day . . . no exercise, hung out with the husband.

Sweets = One cup of ice cream.

Sleep = Crappy, about 6.5 . . . stayed up too late cleaning!

Tuesday:
Exercise = 17 minutes of step and arm exercises with weights, 3 sets of 10 reps with 8lb weights.

Sweets = Handful of mini chocolate eggs.

Sleep = Stayed up too late hanging out with the husband, about 6.5 hours. Great mood though as my sister had her baby today!!!

Wednesday:
Exercise = None, I came home from work with the worst migraine, I assume from the weather shifting. Wasn't good for much, tried to get on the computer, but it didn't last more than a couple minutes.

Sweets = None

Sleep = about 7.5

Thursday:
Exercise = 15 minutes on the stability ball. Arm exercise 2 sets of 10 reps with 8lb weights.

Sweets = 1 pudding cup

Sleep = 8 hours, with this sinus stuff, been feeling like crap, so went to sleep a little earlier.

This week was a little harder due to the change in temperature and sinus issue - don't get me wrong though, I love that Winter seems to be fading and Spring is trying to arrive. My sinuses don't much seem to care for it though. :)

Gracious Mitts

Yarn: Schoeller + Stahl Big
Color: Natural
Content: 100% Wool
Needles: US 4/ 3.5mm
Pattern: Gracious Mittens

I just realized I never blogged about these . . . odd. This was a January KAL I was in. I loved knitting them and loved how they turned out. Only problem was, the palm and end by the fingers stretched out too much by the end of the day. I need them to wear harder. Think I will have to stick with gloves that have fingers.

Photo A Day - Laundry

Since I didn't do laundry last weekend, I had two weeks worth of laundry to wash today. Which means two weeks of laundry to fold!

Photobucket

While I folded these, the bedding was being washed. Might as well get it all done, right?

Photo A Day

Only one piece of my art is up in my apartment, it is the one piece I cannot seem to tuck away or throw away. Trust me as an art student, you simply cannot keep all the projects you want to, unless you rent storage space. Surprisingly, it is from the art class I disliked the most. I found the teacher infuriating and a waste of my time, each class I dreaded as he talked about his poor pathetic starving artist life and how much he disliked being a teacher, etc, etc. It was Figuring Drawing II, for our final project we had to draw the human form in a way that meant something to us. I had so many ideas about all these complex issues in my head. In the end, I drew what I desired most . . . to just find some inner peace.

Photobucket

And a close-up.

Photobucket

Definitely not the most complicated thing I have ever done, but probably one that has the most meaning.

And no, I still have not found the inner peace I so desire, but I am trying harder lately.

Photo A Day

Today we have two pictures, but of the same item. This is a crochet sock I am test crocheting. I like the way it is working out so far. I love the spring-like colors, but the husband doesn't like them, he says it looks like spring threw up on my foot. Such a sweetie isn't he?

Healthy Thursday

Pretty happy with this week and how I did.

Weight = 276 (down 1.4 lbs from last week)

Friday:
Exercise= 20 minutes on the stability ball.

Sweets= None.

Sleep/Mood = 7.5 hours, hoping to start the week off by getting my sleep correct.

Saturday:
Exercise= Arm exercises with weights, 3 sets of 10 reps with 8lb weights. I upped the sets by one this week because it is definitely doable. 20 minutes of Tai Chi, my hips and knees have been bothered a bit lately, so I wanted to stretch them a bit.

Sweets= None.

Sleep/Mood= Slept 10 hours last night, I guess my body really needed some catch up time. More importantly it was mostly good sleep.

Sunday:
Exercise= 20 minutes of abdominal work.

Sweet= 2 homemade brownies.

Sleep= Slept 9 hours, again good sleep. This weekend was definitely good on the sleep.

Monday:
Exercise= Arm exercises with weights, 3 sets of 10 reps with 8lb weights.

Sweets= None

Sleep= Ugh, as always, Sunday to Monday is not good. I got a lot of good sleep this weekend so I wasn’t tired enough. I got about 5.5 hours of sleep and it was crappy sleep, woke up numerous times. As with most days when sleep is less, I constantly felt hungry which means I didn’t feel good.

Tuesday:
Exercise = 20 minutes on stability ball. Arm exercises with weights, 2 sets of 10 reps with 8lbs weights. Only did two reps because my arms were too sore to do 3.

Sweets = 1 cup ice cream.

Sleep = 7.5 hours

Wednesday:
Exercise = 20 minutes of abdominal exercises.

Sweets = 1 pudding cup.

Sleep = 7 hours, I feel like I should have gotten more, but we had things to do like grocery shopping!

Thursday:
Exercise = Going to do 20 minutes of step aerobics tonight, after I make dinner.

Sweets = 1 pudding cup.

Sleep = 7.5 hours and I slept pretty good too, which is the more important aspect.

My goal for next week is to integrate more cardio into my workouts, since right they focus more around muscle toning/building. I can definitely feel some nice muscles building in my arms though, which makes me happy.

Sunday Inspirations on Monday

Can you believe I already forgot to post yesterday?!?!? I got so into crafting I completely forgot! Doh!

This little Pixie Hat is adorable! It lists gauge too, so maybe we shall see one of these in the future!

Do you remember Stick Horses?!?!? I so do, if my nieces and nephew were closer, I would so make each of them one . . . I’m not sure they’d last in the postal system. Maybe next time we go to visit, if I have time, I can make the horses with them.

Recipes I’d like to try:

I miss Jalapeno Poppers, but these Baked Stuffed Jalapenos might be a good substitute. I also might try them with milder peppers for the husband. I think this is a definite this week.

Photo A Day

So, since the crafting will be less as I try to get my butt into the healthy gear, I wanted to make sure I am still here on the blog. I am afraid if I start the slippery slope of being absent, I might lose the blog altogether. Which I know may sound silly to some, but it is a concern of mine and legitimately so because my mind easily wanders off onto new things. I enjoy the blog and do not want to let it go.

So, I’ve decided to do one of the 365 photo things again. It will just be a photo of something from my day, which I may or may not go into detail about. I always enjoy looking at other people’s photos like this.

In the essence of “DO”, there is no time like the present, so to start it off, today’s picture:

2/5/2011

This is a picture of my desk. I know you may be wondering where then is the desk? When ideas start going about certain things I want references, past pieces that I’ve worked on, etc., my dishes rarely make it to the sink and the desk gets buried. It gets cleaned off and sorted every weekend, but by the time next weekend hits, it will inevitably look like this again. It drives my husband crazy as he is a minimalist and cannot possibly understand why I would need all of this stuff at one time! I like to compare, contrast, etc. to make sure my ideas are going where I want them to. Then I have multiple things I am thinking about. He reminds me that that is what the craft room is for. I remind him, it’s winter in an apartment where we don’t control the heat, it’s freezing in there!

Food Friday - Muffins Revisted

No pictures, as they look the same as they did before. I tried the suggestion of dusting the fruit with some of the dry mix . . . it didn't work. That's okay, still good, next time I will just need to chop the fruit up small. Lessons tried and learned. :)

Healthy Thursday

Weight: 277.4 (This is up .8 from last week) Only two days with exercise and not enough sleep this week.

Friday:
Exercise= None, was exhausted. Basically was lazy, watch some Netflix and knitted after work.
Sweets= None.
Sleep/Mood = About 7 hours, I didn’t take my B vitamins today, so I can re-situate when I take them. I didn’t have the tiredness during the day like before. My plan now is to take them when I get home from work and see how that works out.

Saturday:
Exercise= 35 minutes of mat exercises, 15 minutes of abdominal work on the stability ball, and arm exercises - 2 sets of 10 reps with 8lb weights
Sweets= None, although tempted because the husband bought himself some ice cream that happens to be gluten free.
Sleep/Mood= 8.5 hours of sleep and I slept good, which was nice. Was in a good mood the whole day.

Sunday:
Exercise= None
Sweets= None
Sleep/Mood= 9 hours of sleep, but I tossed and turned a bit. Dreams like being late for work kept waking me up. Otherwise good though.

Monday:
Exercise= 30 minutes of squat, lunges, leg work in general, 20 minutes on the stability ball, and arm exercises – 2 sets of 10 reps with 8lb weights
Sweets= Handful of peanut M&Ms because the husband bought a large bag.
Sleep/Mood= 6ish . . . as always Sunday to Monday never good.

Tuesday:
Exercise= None
Sweets= A handful of peanut M&Ms again.
Sleep/Mood= 6.5 hours, have been feeling tired this week, not sure why.

Wednesday:
Exercise= None because my body was just tired.
Sweets= None
Sleep/Mood= 6.5 hours, still feeling tired. I have been trying to get my vitamins on a schedule that aren’t going to make me tired, but I don’t think there is such a thing, so I’ll probably start taking them in the morning again.

Thursday:
Exercise= Will exercise tonight, at least my arms and on the stability ball. I am trying to be easy on my knees, but they are not enjoying this venture back into exercising.
Sweets= 1 peanut butter cup
Sleep/Mood= Only slept like 6 hours last night, if that, because I stayed up making peanut butter cups for work today as we had a tailgate lunch thing.

Overall, this week has felt long and short. Each individual day feels long and drawn out, yet I look over the week and it feels like it flew by and I accomplished little. Almost no crafting has been done this week at all. The blog has been ignored. I need to get next week organized better. Last week I focused more on sleep and was successful, this week the sleep was lacking and I think I paid for it. Well, now we know next week’s focus . . . sleep! So goal is 7.5 hours of sleep each night and do arm exercises each night.
