How sweet is too sweet?

So I made sweet potato fries, because they are considered less offensive than white potatoes and some Paleo eating says they are okay.

The problem? I found them too sweet. I did not add any sugars, just some oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Maybe mixed with something else to cut down the sweetness, but alone, I just cannot do it.

What's so funny?

Mommy and Daddy think I look hilarious after bath time! What do you think?

Isn't unfair for them to pick on me?  I mean, I seriously do not care for water and look what it does to my hair!

HMPF!  This is how a dignified young dog looks!

What makes the world go round?

Homemade sausage!

DSC05055

In Paleo eating they discourage buying processed meat, which includes sausage due to all the things they add to the meat that isn't good for you. So I used one of the recipes in one of my Paleo cook books to make my own.

I use 1 pound of pork and 1 pound of turkey plus a variety of seasonings and let me tell you it is heavenly.

I didn't know before specifically what Fennel Seed was, but I love it now! Extra fennel seed in the sausage recipe.

Retreating Sweater

I finally knitted a second sweater. Yes, I know, seems ridiculous that this is only me second adult sweater.

Any who, here is my test knit:

Yes, it doesn't quite meet as much as I'd like, but that is part of working the kinks out of a test-knit.  I have already started my second one, with some modifications.

I love the overall construction of shrug turned sweater.  It makes for a nice fit.

Overall, I do like the sweater though and I am steadily loosing weight, so some day it will fit me better.

Wookie also had to try it on and of course he looks good in orange!

Sunday Inspirations

Recipe Inspirations:

~ I am trying to get more seafood into my diet and these Shrimp Cakes Bites sound good!

~These Cilantro and Lime Fish Tacos sound good enough to eat without the tortillas.

~ One of the harder aspects of paleo eating is the previous soups I made depended a lot on milk, cheeses, potatoes, rice, and sometimes corn. It makes making a good soup harder, but I would like to figure out how to make a paleo version of this Smoked Seafood Chowder.

~This Cucumber Tomato Salad sounds simple yet good, I will have to try it.

~ Ah, sometimes it is about the small cheats and this Blueberry Mousse Pie sounds like a worthy cheat.

~ I'd like to try these Paleo Chocolate Cupcakes, when eating gluten free, things made predominantly of almond flours always seem grainy in texture. I'm either going to have to work with this or find a way to have them less grainy.

~ At first when doing the paleo eating I refused to give up potatoes . . . after all, all of this healthy eating seemed to be about giving up the foods I always loved. My comfort foods, but lets face it, food isn't meant to be about comfort, it's meant to be nutrition. So I gave up my potatoes after two weeks into the paleo eating and my stomach has thanked me, ugh! I am intrigued to try things like these Paleo Potatoes. I couldn't find any celeriac root at the grocery store, but I am going to keep looking.

~ Simple and sweet seems like the best words to describe this Almond Fruit Tart.

Sunday Inspirations

Ah, this summer is busy in so many ways. :)

I am enjoying my venture into Paleo eating. It does definitely help me feel better. I do still include the occasional cheat, but they are getting less. I am trying to make it so more of my prep is done over the weekend, so I have a little more time during the week, but it is still something I am working at.

Sewing Inspiration:

I love how simple it looks to make this Dresden Plate Block.

Recipe Inspirations:

~I think this pizza crust would be interesting to try. I also think it would make a nice experiment to go thinner and see if they made decent tortillas.

~I am a super fan of lemon and these Lemon Bars sound like a nice treat that wouldn't be too much of a cheat.

~I am interested in trying celery root in place of potatoes, so these Celery Root Hash Browns look not only good, but something that I could make on the weekend and eat throughout the week for breakfast.

~Who doesn't love sweets? This Chocolate Pudding looks promising as a nice sweet treat.

~Snickerdoodles are my favorite cookie and I haven't had one for years now. I want to try these Snickerdoodles and see how they compare to my memories!

~Jerky is always a nice snack to fill you up and I want to try these Beef Jerky and Salmon Jerky recipes.

~I will be trying a paleo version of this Crockpot Mongolian Beef recipe.

~These are not within my paleo eating, but I am sure my husband would love these Nutella Stuffed Brownie Cookies!
