Dyeing Experiments

So, I tried a dyeing experiments a month or so ago:

It all started when we went out to Ohio, I picked up this package at a 2nd hand store. I got it mostly because I'd never seen thick-n-thin yarn quite like this, plus I thought the patterns might look cute in different yarns.

So I wound the yarn into skeins.

Then I had some yarn that I wanted to dye so I would actually use is, so I decided I would dye them together in Yellow, Red, Blue, and Purple.

Here is the pink over-dyed. I forget to take a picture of the other ones by themselves.

Here are the comparisons, both types of yarn were dyed in the sames colors. The thick-n-thin is 100% cotton and on the right side. The thicker, previous tan like color, is Debbie Bliss Stella (60% Silk, 20% Rayon, and 20% Cotton)and is on the left side.

Yellow - you can see the Debbie Bliss turned a light Olive green color, while the cotton is a bright yellow.

Blue - the Debbie Bliss is a lovely light blue, while the cotton is a vibrant blue

Purple - the Debbie Bliss came out more of a Rose Purple and the cotton is a very deep pink/purple

Red - the Debbie Bliss is a soft pink, while the cotton is a bright pink/red

I have started crafting with the over-dyed Debbie Bliss and will share that with you in a couple of days.

Justice's Pink Cardigan

This was a test-knit, I only chose to do it because I could knit one for my niece, Justice.

I think it fits her decently.

This was the first time doing a bottom up sweater like this.

The band was decent so I didn't reinforce anything.  Buttonholes ended up smaller than pattern says so had to buy different buttons than I originally purchased for it.

I really like the way the shoulders were done in this.  I want to try this method in the future.

The lace was easy, but pretty.

In the test knit the back top is left unfinished like this, but in the completed pattern there is supposed to be an option for finishing it in garter like the rest of the edges.

Yarn: Caron Simply Soft
Color: Watermelon
Content: 100% Acrylic
Care: Machine Wash and Dry
Needles: US 6 / 4mm

Overall:  The sweater was nice and quick to knit.  I will probably knit another one of these in the future, maybe for my sister Echo, Justice's Mom, since she keeps stealing it from Justice.

Post Tour De Fleece

I did successfully spin most of the Tour De Fleece and I am still massively in love with my Turkish Spindle, to the point that I am looking into potentially purchasing a couple more as I prefer them.

Any who, when I purchased the spindle I also purchased some maroon, orange, and yellow fiber. I chose to take chunks of each color and make a striping yarn. I spun thin singles, as normal, and Navajo Plied it and then Navajo Plied it again, so the resulting yarn is a 9ply sport/dk weight.
