Mommes Lysedug 5/14/07

I made this doily for my sister, without realizing just how long it would take me to do it. My attention span is not the greatest, so this one would get set down to work on shorter things and so it was a little late for a Christmas present . . . like 3 months late . . .oops. I think it was worth it though, but why don't you decide.

Yarn: Royale Rave Crochet
Color: Bone
Contents: 96% acrylic and 4% nylon
Needles: US 4
Pattern: Mommes Lysedug
Modifications: No modifications were made intentionally, but I under estimated the yarn I would need and ran out and was unable to get more, so I ended the doily around line 74 of the pattern and added a ruffled cast off to the edges.










Overall, the pattern turned out beautifully, but the yarn was a little bit of a pain to deal with. In the end, I would definitely try to find this yarn again to do something similar.

Teal Lace Scarf 5/14/08

This scarf was made for a teacher that I work with. She was very nice to me all year and was humorous to have around. So I felt compelled to knit her something nice.

Yarn: Lang Yarns Silkdream (used 3 balls)
Color: 696.0078 - - or in my words, teal
Content: 50% Merino and 50% Silk
Needles:US 6 . . . 4mm
Pattern: Lacy Leaves stitch pattern from the book Big Book of Knitting Stitch Patterns
Modifications: I didn't cross the stitches on the sides of the stitch pattern because I didn't like the look of it as much, plus I added four stst on each side.

I really liked working on this scarf, this is the best yarn I have ever felt so far. However, half way through the first ball was a knot, which was disappointing, but the other two balls didn't have any knots.


The first picture was while it was blocking, which was interesting to do since I don't really have a space large enough to do that. But the blocking was well worth it.

Mosaic Sample 5/11/08

I am volunteering at this event called Art Rocks the Park and my proposed art lesson was a mosaic with a flower theme.








I had rolled out Sculpey and Fimo #7 thickness sheets with my clay pasta machine. Then cut it into random geometrical shapes and then baked the pieces. Afterward, I used them to create a flower mosaic, using glue on matte board. I loved doing this and am using this material for a handmade book I am working on.

I will get to teach this mosaic flower, but they prefer to use real tiles since it is cheaper. So look for another sample, but with broken tiles.

Crochet, Basketry, and Felting 5/11/08

This started out as yarn . . . that had a ball band that I can no longer find. I believe it was a Lion Brand wool. Any who, I held three strands together and crocheted them into one long strand. I felted the strand and then using a needle and thread coiled it into a basket.

I actually really enjoyed this process and will definitely try it again. I will post pictures later of it blocked, because my coiling was a little off. I think this might be a little more interesting with a finer yarn and a larger basket.

Double Tychus 5/6/08

After 5 winters in New York State I have to accept the fact that my cheap hats or really old acrylic hats just aren't going to cut it. So I made a double sided Tychus(from Knitty).

I knit two Tychus hats. One with Joker wool black and Lion Brand Wool White and the second one with Moda-dea wool and silk green and Lion Brand Wool White. Needles were size 4.5mm. I love the feel of it, granted I finished it about a month ago and the cold weather is gone now, but I will be prepared for next winter.

First Socks for Me 5/06/08

These are the first socks I have actually made for myself, which was a different type of learning lesson, since I actually had the feet they were intended for near. Everyone else I have made socks for lives on the other side of the US, so it is quite different.

This yarn was actually part of a Louet sock dye kit. I used their dye in the kit to dye the yarn, but didn't actually care for the sock pattern that was in the kit . . . partially because it was written for feet that are smaller than my feet. Definitely not a size 7, oh well. I love this yarn and the colors much better knitted up. I will admit, I didn't really care for the colors when I had dyed the yarn, but I really do love it all knitted up.

Overall, I learned the I like some negative ease in my socks. I made these to fit all of my measurements and they are just a little too loose, especially after they have been worn for a couple hours.

Pinwheel Sweater 2/2/08

I made the pinwheel sweater from Elann.com for my mother.

Yarn - Caron Simply Soft, worsted weight, bone color
100% acrylic

Needles - size 6/4mm

Size is one size fits all, but I used a smaller gauge and smaller needles and did the math to adjust for my gauge. Instead of the edging in the pattern I used a moss stitch because in all honesty, I am just in love with moss stitch.

In enjoyed making in the beginning, but in all honesty, by the end I was just wanting it to be over. It was a little too repetitive for my tastes. But I loved how it turned out in the end, so it was all worth it.
